Tim Hudson
1968, Sheffield, UK
After receiving a first class honours degree from Central St Martins in London, Tim spent a year in Frankfurt Germany on an invitation from Sean Scully and the Frankfurt Schirnkunsthalle to participate in a one year residency program. He moved to Amsterdam in 1997.
The paintings he makes are concerned with surface, light and space. Not just the physical space that the paint occupies but also the visual perception of space, created by colour intervals created with juxtaposed blocks of paint. He is intrigued by the idea of virtual space, that manifests around digital technology and finds it fascinating that vast spaces exists between protons and electrons and the fact that the physical matter around us is mostly just space.
The paintings Tim creates are all square format and the dimensions of all the paintings are based on the height of Tim himself, the largest panels measuring 180cm square. Other works are then squares measuring 3/4, 1/2 or 1/4 of the height of the artist.

Fleeting Moments
In Tim’s latest series, brushstrokes, textures and bands of paint are trapped withing layes of clear resin. The build up of the layers creates a visual three dimensional depth that is both intricate and fascinating. Smears of colour have become frozen in time like an insect in a piece of amber.

Golden Curtain
Works in the Golden Curtain series are made of only hanging paint. There is no canvas or support. Layers of paint have been applied to glass and once dried, removed so that the surface becomes its’ own support. The coloured hue from the back surface reflects onto the wall behind the work and creates the illusion of a hidden light source.

Qubit
A Qubit is the name of a basic unit of quantum information within a quantum computer. A Qubit has 2 states however quantum mechanics allows the qubit to be in a coherent superposition of both states simultaneously.
